EWG’s Dirty Dozen #WhyIGrow

Every year the Environmental Working Group releases a “Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce”. The list, Dirty Dozen, contains the produce that tested highest for residual pesticides.

If I remember correctly, this study tests non-organic produce.

Dirty Dozen

  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Nectarines
  4. Apples
  5. Peaches
  6. Pears
  7. Cherries
  8. Grapes
  9. Celery
  10. Tomatoes
  11. Sweet bell peppers
  12. Potatoes
  13. Hot Peppers

In addition to the Dirty Dozen, the EWG also releases the Clean Fifteen: Produce that tested with the lowest amounts of residual pesticides.

Clean Fifteen

  1. Sweet Corn (the EWG makes a note that a small amount of sweet corn in the United States)
  2. Avocados
  3. Pineapples
  4. Cabbage
  5. Onions
  6. Sweet Peas, frozen
  7. Papayas (the EWG makes a note that a few papayas in the United States)
  8. Asparagus
  9. Mangos
  10. Eggplant
  11. Honeydew Melon
  12. Kiwi
  13. Cantaloupe
  14. Cauliflower
  15. Grapefruit
