For as long as I can remember I have dreamt of having a large herb garden with lots of variations and a specific area to prepare and dry them. I might not have the latter yet, but my garden is starting to grow.
I started small with the idea of working my way up to that dream garden. This way I could learn more about herbs and not overwhelm myself. I started with
- Thyme
- Chamomile, German
- Oregano
- Sage
- Lavender
- Feverfew
- Echinacea
Now that I’m feeling very comfortable with those and after expanding my herbalism knowledge, I have a better idea of what plants I’d like to include in my garden. Here is the list so far.
- Aloe
- Aniseed
- Bonest
- Catnip
- Chamomile
- Cinnamon
- Clove
- Coltsfoot
- Comfrey
- Dandelion
- Echinacea
- Elderberry
- Feverfew
- Flaxseed
- Garlic
- Geranium
- Ginger
- Golden Rod
- Jasmine
- Lavender
- Licorice
- Marshmallow
- Mullein
- Oregano
- Passion Flower
- Peppermint
- Rosemary
- Sage
- Skullcap
- Thyme
- Valerian
- White Horehound
- Yarrow
I suspect that this list will continue to grow as the plants themselves grow. I’m sure some will be removed from the list all together as I add the “how to grow” onto the plant profiles. After all, what’s the point of planting an herb that requires more maintenance than I can give it?
Once I determine what I want to plant, I can start working on my garden space. I started a small flower garden opposite my vegetable garden a few years ago. I’m going to expand this space, put up a fence and lay down some sort of pathway so grass won’t be an issue. Some of my herbs will go into pots while others directly into the ground.
