Full Harvest: Broccoli

My broccoli production recently came to a halt. None of the 8 plants were producing. I thought it was probably too hot and their season was completed. I was wrong.

After adding a little nutrients, the broccoli began to produce again. Rapidly. The secondy shoots grew quickly and two of the plants who I had written off are finally producing their first broccoli.

Broccoli is a heavy feeder but I’m guessing it may have been a combination of factors causing the halt. Heat being one, low nutrients being another and a third being a pest; cabbageworms. Luckily I caught the problem early and elimated the pest. Daily checks help for now but in the future, I think I’ll build a row cover to help protect my broccoli.
