Time for Ketchup!

I was so impressed with how my butter turned out last night that I decided to give ketchup a shot. It took quite some time to boil it down and there are some things I would change for the next batch but overall it came out pretty well.

  • 1 can of tomato sauce (15oz)
  • 1/3 cup white vinegar
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Cinnamon
  • Paparika

The original recipe I found called for tomato puree but I didn’t have any in the pantry so I substituted sauce. The primary difference is that tomato sauce already had spices added. I think that’s probably part of the reason why I thought the ketchup was a bit too sweet.

Still, it turned out pretty good for a first try. I’m looking forward to making ketchup from the tomatoes in my garden this year.
